Jim Morrison statue found after being stolen from his grave nearly 40 years ago

French police said they made a “chance discovery”.

A bust of The Doors frontman Jim Morrison which was stolen from his Parisian Père-Lachaise grave site in 1988 has been recovered. .

French authorities located the sculpture of the iconic singer during a police search of a property linked to an unrelated fraud case.

The public prosecutor's office called the find a “chance discovery”.

Although the sculpture appears battered and a little worse for wear, the graffiti and broken nose are thought to have been inflicted upon it during its troubled history prior to its disappearance.

Now the question is: What will be done with the marble Morrison?

Fans on social media have been quick to comment on the matter.

“Time for it to be returned where it belongs. Back with Jim!” one person wrote.

Others suggested it should be given a makeover first. “Maybe it can be cleaned up/restored and re-installed at the new footbridge!”

Meanwhile, some think it should be given a calmer place of rest, free from the risk of further vandalism.

“I would hope that it is put on display in an entrance building."

The bust was created by Croatian artist Mladen Mikulin as a tribute to the self-proclaimed Lizard King, who was found dead in 1971 in a bathtub in Paris at age 27.

Although the suspected cause of death was a heart attack, this has remained unconfirmed, as no autopsy was ever performed.

Unveiled at his cemetery spot on the tenth anniversary of his death in 1981, the statue went missing just seven years later. This further added to the mystery that already surrounded Morrisons' somewhat unexplained death and entry into the 27 Club

Whatever the mystery and the truth behind it, may Morrison’s soul and statue now rest in peace.
