Watch: Shane Hawkins’ plays drums in music video featuring late Dad Taylor Hawkins

Shane is behind the kit for Luke Spillers’ music video tribute to Taylor - who played drums on the track.

Taylor Hawkins’ teenage son Shane has featured in a music video on a song his late dad played drums on.

The song, called ‘Angel Like You,’ was written and recorded by Luke Spillers from The Struts, with the hopes of it featuring in the 2024 James Bond film ‘No Time to Die.’

Speaking with Lipps Service, Spiller revealed that Hawkins’ recorded drums for the song before heading on his final tour with Foo Fighters back in 2022.

“I called up Taylor and was like, ‘ya know, this needs a great, great drum part on it. Would you be down?’ and he was like ‘yeah,’ so we went up to his house and recorded it,” he said.

Since the song never ended up getting featured on the Bond film, Spillers decided to feature it on his new solo album ‘Love Will Probably Kill Me Before Cigarettes And Wine.'

Spillers’ wanted to pay a ‘genuine kind of tribute’ to the late Foos’ drummer, so asked Hawkins’ son Shane if he would feature in the music video - to which he agreed. The music video was also filmed at Foo Fighters’ Studio 606, and included Hawkins’ former Chevy Metal bandmate Wiley Hodgkin on bass.

Speaking about Shane, Spills said, “he has an insanely bright future ahead of him.

“It's just incredible to sort of see him play. You know, there's so much of the raw talent coming through. So to have him in the video was really, really, great and honestly just kind of like a full circle moment...”

Speaking about the tribute to Taylor, he said, “...even for the engineers that work at 606 who helped me cut the drums originally with Taylor, for instance. They were like, ‘This is going to be so magical…’

“...I guess in some ways it is almost like a ‘thank you’ to [Taylor] because whether it was me moving to LA to begin with, in 2019, which he suggested.

“Or the kind words that he would say about my solo music. It all meant something, and it all helped me to pursue it, so a complete full circle moment.”

Definitely a beautiful tribute for the late, great drummer. Plus, Shane really looks like his dad in the music video which makes it feel even more full-circle.

Like father, like son.
