Watch: Halestorm release dark, moody new song ‘Darkness Always Wins’

"Darkness Always Wins is not a song of hope, nor is it a song of despair. It is Reality."

Halestorm have dropped their first new song for 2025, and have taken a dark, moody direction with it.

The new song, called ‘Darkness Always Wins,’ was released in the early hours of this morning here in New Zealand, and has come with an accompanying visualizer video.

"Darkness Always Wins is not a song of hope, nor is it a song of despair. It is Reality. History repeating. Evil prevails and the Good depart first. But we are not doomed as long as we persist and keep our fires burning,” frontwoman Lzzy Hale wrote on Instagram.

“The War may not be won in this lifetime. But our mission is to pass the torch so that those who follow have a light to fight with."

The new song is raw and haunting, a bit of a slow burn, and showcases the versatility in Lzzy’s voice.

The first lyrics in the song go, “Now the world is still, it’s just me spinning out, trapped inside my head, feeling numb, and there’s no song to sing, to save me from myself.”

Fans are already loving the new track.

“From fragility to reckless heroism of being a human who dares to play with the shadows  - in one f'ing song. Amazing,” wrote one fan.

While another commented, “It's not a song of hope, nor of despair. So the song is not heavy, but it's also not a soft ballad. It hits exactly the middle ground to capture the feeling of the lyrics.”

The band are currently working on a sixth studio album, Loudwire reports, so assumedly, this is the first track off that.

Meanwhile, Halestorm have a bunch of European tour dates coming up, including an appearance at the Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath ‘Back to the Beginning’ gig this July… Which we could be sending you to!

Just listen out for your boarding call between 6am and 6pm, be the first caller through, and you’re in the draw. The winner will be called Friday 2nd May.
