'Hard rock with a creepy twist': Alice Cooper debuts new song on The Sound

'Black Mamba' is the original band's first song in over 50 years.

The Alice Cooper group is back with a vengeance with the release of their newest single, ‘Black Mamba’ - and Kiwi Sound listeners were some of the first in the world to hear it.

No, you’re not 'Caught in a Dream'.

The surviving members of the band are back together for at least one more album - ‘The Revenge Of Alice Cooper’.

Set to release in July this year, the record will be lead singer Alice Cooper, drummer Neal Smith, guitarist Michael Bruce, and bassist Dennis Dunaway’s first project together in over 50 years.

Last night, New Zealand was one of the first countries to hear the debut of ‘Black Mamba’, the opening track off the 14-song album.

Have a listen to the eerie and atmospheric tune below.

The semi-exclusive and somewhat quiet release of the song occurred on Alice Cooper’s radio show, Alice’s Attic.

Here at The Sound, we are New Zealand’s only destination for the five-hour segment, but it's also broadcast on a selection of stations across North America, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

As the song has reached listeners around the globe - reactions have started to roll in.

One fan was full of praise, summing the song up as “hard rock with a creepy twist” and labelling the band as “still so musically viable” in their Reddit post.

The same user exclaimed that this is exactly the vibe they have been waiting for and wanting from the group.

Another agreed, “It's the sort of earworm that'll gradually take over your mind. Nice groove and swagger to it.”.

So far, so good.

The strike of ‘Black Mamba’ seems to have people charmed and hyped for the upcoming release.

Will the poison of Alice Cooper take over once more?

Time will tell.
