MET Gala 2025: André 3000 has legit strapped a grand piano to his back on the red carpet

He also just casually dropped new music - surprise!

André 3000 just made his - excuse the pun - grand entrance to the MET Gala 2025, wearing a piano on his back.

And just to really keep us on our toes, he went and dropped a surprise new EP on the way to the event.

It’s titled ‘7 piano sketches’, and is the first new music we’ve heard from him since 2023 with ‘New Blue Sun’.

This one also doesn’t include any lyrics or rapping, but as the title suggests, it does have seven solo piano tracks - and they’re extremely vibey.

“Warning: no bars,” he captioned his Instagram announcement.

“These piano sketches are improvisations,” he added. “I cannot name which notes, keys or chords that I’m playing. I simply like the sound and mechanics of piano playing.”

These piano pieces weren’t recorded with the intention of presenting them in any formal way to the public. They were personal, at-home recordings. I would sometimes text them to my family and friends.

He continued to say they were all recorded in the house he was renting with his son, where they had no furniture other than a TV, beds and a piano.

Each track kicks off with a voice note from André, his studio engineer, and choreographer Fatima Robinson.

Turns out the music has actually been on André’s hard drive for a long time.

According to an interview with GQ, André said he recorded most of the tracks on his iPhone between 12 and 15 years ago.

I can barely keep track of photos I took back in 2022 - so kudos to him for that!

And rocking an outfit that bold and oversized is definitely one way to get our attention.

BRB, chucking on these piano tracks while I get back to the rest of my day’s work.
