Over the weekend, Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese announced on social media that he had been ‘let go’ from the band, and it was met with a flurry of support.
He announced the Foos had decided to "go in a different direction with their drummer”, with “no reason given”.
Freese admitted that he was “a bit shocked and disappointed”.
Freese was with the band for two years, following the tragic death of former drummer Taylor Hawkins.
Fans immediately took to the comments to share their opinions, calling it “their loss” and “absolute bullsh*t”.
It wasn’t just fans that chimed in - original Foos drummer William Goldsmith and other celebrities shared their honest thoughts.
Goldsmith, who was with the band from 1994-1997, was very blunt about his opinion in the comments: “Say what? Why? For playing everything not only perfectly but going above and beyond what most are remotely capable of?
“I apologise but respectfully this makes absolutely no sense to me.”
He doubled down by sharing a screenshot to his Instagram story that reads: “I don’t see anything wrong with being such a profoundly great musician, a total professional, reliable in every sense of the word from what I can tell and going above and beyond what most drummers are capable of.”

He finished off nicely with: “Baffles my mind.”
Goldsmith did not leave the band amicably, his reason being that Dave Grohl re-recorded his drum work on The Colour and the Shape back in the late ‘90s.
The Police drummer Stewart Copeland was very matter-of-fact with his comment: “This is lucky for the five other bands that you play with.”
Dream Theater percussionist Mike Portnoy said he was “shocked” and that Freese “seemed to be the perfect fit.”
Craig Reynolds, Stray from the Path drummer, threw some shade: “Sorry this happened but happy for me that I don’t have to sit through their songs to watch you play.” Freese agreed so much with this comment he
Grammy award-winning Jazz drummer Tommy Igoe said he doesn’t know “one single amazing drummer that has not been let go at least once in their life from a band.
You’re an amazing drummer.
Jazz and Rock drummer Chad Wackerman was also shocked: “Josh I really loved what you brought to the band! That’s just crazy.”
Fiction Plane vocalist/bassist Joe Sumner used humour to make his thoughts clear, saying “you can’t have the new drummer be by far the best musician in the band. It just doesn’t look right.”
While Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland called it “gross” and said he was “shook”.
Other celebrities showed their support, like American skateboarder Steve Caballero, American musician Colin Brittain, Canadian pop-icon Michael Bublé, Comedian Tim Heidecker and more.
While Foos are still yet to make a comment, Freese can absolutely be encouraged that he has plenty of support on his side.
