‘Dad of the year’: Te Puke students arrive at school ball in boat built by one of their dads

The video has garnered over 500,000 views.

A couple of Te Puke Highschool students turned heads at their school ball recently, rocking up to the event in a boat built by one of their dads.

In rural New Zealand, showing up to your school ball in a farming rig - be it a ute, tractor, or something with hay bales strapped to it - is practically a rite of passage, and these Te Puke High School students recently took it to the next level.

In a video posted to the Facebook page Choice One Bro, a ute can be seen towing a large boat past a crowd of onlookers. Two girls - dressed in their ball dresses - are on the boat, before hopping off down the ladder for their grand entrance.

Turns out, the boat was built by one of the girls’ dads, who is being hailed in the comments as ‘Dad of the Year.’

“My cousin built that boat himself and our beautiful niece was proud to take that ride,” a family member commented on the video. “These young ladies had a great night and looked fabulous too… and bonus they’re now a bit viral.”

The video has racked up over 500,000 views on the Facebook page, with a bunch of people in the comments singing the young women and their family’s praises.

“Te Puke does it great every year. That’s a cool idea,” one person commented on the video.

“Yous look absolutely amazing, and what an awesome way to show up,” wrote another person.

“What an entrance for a fun night! Beautiful girls and Dad of the year!” wrote a third.

What an epic way to show up - boat, ball dresses, and a legendary dad - job done.
