Two tamariki tāne honouring their nanny for getting her moko kauae have gone viral.
As she lay on the bed, after her ceremony, all of her mokopuna were there to tautoko their Kuia, and two decided to vocalise it with a powerful haka.
The video has been reshared on the popular Māori Worldwide Instagram page, where it’s gained close to 300k views in just 24 hours.
The passion they put into their haka on the fly is beautiful to watch - it even brought Nanny to tears.
“Taia tō moko, hei hoa matenga mōu,” the original poster of the moment, Ronnie, wrote alongside the clip.
Meaning to take your moko as a friend for life or until death. “It will be your ornament and your companion until your last day,” Medium.com translates it.
The final result is truly beautiful, and seeing Nanny reach that milestone in her journey really is something special.
Others in the comments agree, with one person writing: “There’s appreciating culture and upholding culture. So, thank you for always showing us how important it is to uphold our culture. 🥰”
“This is one of the most beautiful and loving videos I have ever seen ❤️,” said another.
“Gave me chills, very powerful,” a third added. “So beautiful.”
It’s not the only time mokopuna have celebrated whānau so preciously.
Remember when footage of tamariki performing a beautiful kapa haka routine at their dad’s tangihana did the viral rounds?
Since December 2022, the video has gained a whopping 4.7 million views.
It shows a group of around seven tamariki singing in harmony and performing in unison so beautifully.
It’s these moments that make you truly appreciate whānau - ātaahua!
