Instagram’s new feature is airing out your dirty algorithm laundry and scrolling habits with those closest to you.
Blend lets you and your mates (or partner, or your chaotic group chat) share personalised Reels in your DMs - curated from everyone’s likes and searches into one gloriously unhinged feed.
It’s a dangerous game, and dare I say, there's more room for chaos than when we used to be able to see what the people we followed were liking on the app - IYKYK.
The feature updates daily with reels based on your collective activity. So if your bestie’s been liking gym bro thirst-traps and you’ve been deep in cat reels, your shared feed will be… a mixed bag.
Here's how it works:
Open a DM with a friend or group of friends and tap the Blend icon (a small, yin-yang face and plus symbol next to the person's name)
Click invite for your bestie, partner or the whole group chat to join the Blend
Once everyone has joined, the chaos is ready to commence
Instagrammer Rebecca Green reckons she’s already discovered a few things she wasn’t prepared to know.
“I just invited my friends to it, and we have discovered that not only is it what I search for, what you search for, and what we talk about in this group - but it says what reel is for what person.”
“Now the group chat is popping off because it’s like, ‘Oh Rebecca, this one's for you… Renee, what are you searching for?’ ...”
She added the potential nightmare impact this will have on relationships.
“Can you imagine the relationships that will end today when different partners see what other people are searching?”
Others, just hearing about the feature, aren’t so sure it’s the best idea.
“I legitimately do not wanna know what everyone searches for. I need to know less about people,” one commenter wrote.
Another said: “Instagram is tryna start beef and I ain’t taking a bite today 😭😭😭🤧.”
“THE ALGORITHM WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BETWEEN ME AND GOD,” added a third.
I’ve already started two blends. One with my bestie and one with my partner… what could go wrong?!
