From beats to eats: George FM's guide to what's on in Auckland this winter

Tāmaki Makaurau is turning the heat up for the colder months.

The start of winter means the end of long days, outdoor gigs and beach missions - but it doesn't mean the good times have to stop.

Tāmaki Makaurau has heaps going on over the colder months, keeping your schedule filled with eats and beats, places to stay and places to play.

From harbourside to cityside, here’s what's on our Auckland set list:

Auckland Winter Series – Mall Grab

The Auckland Winter Series is taking over the Auckland Town Hall this June and influential DJ and producer Mall Grab is back. Making a long-awaited return to Aotearoa, and having reshaped the global electronic landscape, Mall Grab promises a night of unstoppable energy, immersive audio-visual production, deep cuts and future anthems.

DARKFIELD: Séance and Flight

Two unreal experiences are set to unfold inside custom-built shipping containers in Aotea Square this autumn. These multi-sensory journeys will challenge your senses with mind-bending 360-degree audio that will leave you questioning reality.

One New Zealand Warriors at Go Media Stadium

The Wahs take on the Raiders in Round 12 of this year's NRL season on the 25th of May, and it's sure to be a Sunday session worth getting amongst.

Last Laughs: Hosted by Eli Matthewson

Celebrate the very best of the 2025 New Zealand International Comedy Festival with Best Foods all in one show with performances from the incredible 2025 Billy T Award Nominees. Previous winners of the prestigious award include Kura Forrester, Guy Montgomery, Rose Matafeo, Guy Williams and Dai Henwood, so you know the talent will be ON.

Auckland Winter Series – Teeks

Another Town Hall takeover will see Teeks performing a very special one-night-only show with a string sextet and piano. Anyone who's been to a Teeks show knows it's a spiritual experience, so this is one not to be missed.

DHL Super Rugby Pacific Blues vs Waratahs

Head out to see Auckland's Super Rugby defending champions at their last home game for the season at Eden Park. They're taking on the Waratahs on May 31. Kick off is at 4:35, but if you get there early you can welcome the fellas as they get off the bus and walk through the concourse at 3pm.

Sunset Rooftop Bar

Escape the weather and time-travel back to the 70s with a warm and vibey interior on the top floor of the Sudima Auckland hotel. There are DJs every Friday and Saturday, a banging menu with king prawn skewers, spiced lamb sliders and beef cheek croquettes, and of course, epic views all the way out to the Waitākere Ranges

Black Ferns vs USA

Our girls are warming up for the 2025 Rugby World Cup in August, but before that they're taking on America in a Pacific Four Series in May. The Black Ferns are the most dominant team in all of rugby, and they need our support to keep it that way!
