Desperate Housewives offshoot ‘Wisteria Lane’ confirmed and currently in development

While we don't know which characters will be on the show, we do know it'll be set on Wisteria Lane.

Fans of Desperate Housewives will be stoked to find out that the hit TV series is officially getting an offshoot…

Or maybe a reboot? Details are still under wraps, so we’re not quite sure what to call it yet - but we do know something is brewing on Wisteria Lane.

Fittingly titled Wisteria Lane, the show is set to take place on the very same cul de sac that we all know and love. The cul de sac where secrets festered behind white picket fences and perfectly-cut lawns, friendships were tested over coffee and scandal, and nobody’s past ever stayed buried for long.

American actress Kerry Washington - who’s set to be the Executive Producer of the reimagined show - appeared on The View last week to confirm the news.

While she couldn’t reveal much, Washington says the new series isn’t a ‘remake,’ but is definitely ‘inspired’ by the original 2004 show.

“I can’t say too much… it’s very newly announced, it’s in development,” Washington said. “The idea is that it’s new times, there’s new challenges, it’s like, what happens on that cul de sac now? It’s really exciting.”

Although details on the upcoming show are sparse, Deadline has reported that it’ll be written by Natalie Chaidez (The Flight Attendant), and is already in development at Onyx Collective through Washington’s Simpson Street production company.

Deadline described the upcoming series as “a fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/ mystery in the vein of Desperate Housewives.”

Like the original, the show will be “set among a group of five different friends and sometimes frenemies who all live on a picture-perfect cul de sac…

“...On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream: beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway. But behind those white-picket fences and smiling Insta posts are SECRETS.”

From what little we know so far, it’s giving the same deliciously twisted suburban drama we fell in love with back in the 2000s, just updated for a new era.

When asked if the upcoming show will see old characters return, Washington unfortunately didn’t give out any details, meaning we still don’t know if the show will take the spin-off route, or the full-blown revival path.

Before the upcoming series was confirmed last month, Eva Longoria, who played the iconic Gaby in the original series, sat down with Stellar Magazine where she said she’d “be the first person to sign up” for a reboot.

Fingers crossed that promise still stands, because who wouldn’t wanna see where Gabrielle Solis is now?

With the original setting confirmed but the cast still a mystery, it’s unclear whether Wisteria Lane will be a true revival or a fresh reboot with new shady characters on the block.

Either way, as a Desperate Housewives ride or die, I’ll be parked on the couch with my bestie - just like we did back in the day - ready for secrets, scandals and maybe a murder or two.
