If you're like me, the value, volume and variety of Costco has always had an appeal, but you've never actually made it out to Auckland's Westgate store, for a few reasons.
One - it's intimidatingly big, and I get lost easily.
Two - The amount of choice on offer is overwhelming, and I know I'd just end up getting a hot dog from the food court and leaving without any of the stuff I need or want.
Three - I'm just not the type to sign up for a membership. I'm too traumatised from my past dealings with the gym.
Now though, things are different. DoorDash has started delivering a range of Costco products around Auckland, and you don't even need a membership.
You can get a $145 dog bed, 2kgs of chicken nuggets or a 224 pack of nappies - the possibilities are endless.
I didn't need any of those things, so when DoorDash gave me the chance to put in an order, I chose a big box of the famous Costco chocolate chunk cookies, 22 Babybel Cheese Snacks, a charcuterie platter and 24 cans of fancy pink lemonade for an Easter lunch I'm hosting this weekend.
This is where Costco really comes into its own, when catering for a crowd. If you're hosting a shindig or planning a bach getaway and running short on time to sort supplies, getting them delivered like this could be a Godsend.
Now, because NZ's only Costco warehouse is in Auckland, this is service only available in the 09... for now. But never fear, because Costco bosses have vowed there will be more stores coming - with Christchurch and Wellington a possibility.
I live in Grey Lynn, about a 20 minute drive from the Costco store, but it took several hours to make its way to me - so while it's very convenient to scroll through the aisles from home, it's not going to be the quickest option.
If you do have a membership, you can connect it via the DoorDash app so you still get those sweet deals and cheaper prices. And for the next three weeks, you can get $20 off your order when you spend over $150 - which is dangerously easy to do.
Now if only they'd make those famous food court hot dogs available to order…
